Carissa Juarez

Board of Directors

Carissa is a dedicated advocate for sickle cell disease awareness and support. Her commitment to this cause began when her daughter, Jalyssa Batista-Juarez, was diagnosed at birth with the SS genotype of sickle cell disease, a severe form of the condition. Unfamiliar with the complexities of caring for a chronically ill child, Juarez immersed herself in research and embraced her role as both caregiver and mother. This journey led her to connect with the Massachusetts Sickle Cell Association when Jalyssa was just three months old. She has been instrumental in raising awareness about sickle cell disease, not only for her daughter but also for others living with the condition and their caregivers.
