Community Action for Public Schools Newsletter Join the fight! Every child has a right to a high quality education, but in practice, many fail to receive it. Among those who are shortchanged are a high percentage of children from low-income families. The Center for Law and Education has launched Community Action for Public Schools (CAPS) to give people the tools to improve their public schools for all children. We plan to do that in three major ways. First, our staff will work with parent, student, and community groups, advocates and school staff to help build their capacity to change schools. Second, we will provide training and technical assistance to schools that want to increase parent participation and strengthen community support. Third, we will provide parents and community supporters with information about successful school programs. This newsletter is a benefit of CAPS membership. Six times a year we will feature programs that are making a difference for children, research about what works, and legal tools to make it happen. All of the newsletter's articles, reproducible fact sheets, and other information relate to three CAPS principles for public schools:
Most important, we want to hear from you. This newsletter serves the CAPS network, and we want to know how we can do that better. Send us your comments, suggestions, questions, and news, and please share this newsletter with your friends and neighbors. March/April 1998 Issue |
